Short answer: SLS (CAS 151-21-3) is a registered substance under EU REACH. Above one tonne per year, the obligation sits with someone — either the non-EU manufacturer via an Only Representative (OR), or you as the importer.

What to check before importing

  • Registration route: ask the supplier directly whether your volumes are covered by an OR appointment, or whether you must register yourself.
  • Tonnage band: obligations and costs scale with annual volume.
  • UK REACH: separate from EU REACH — EU registration does not cover Great Britain.
  • Other markets: TSCA listing for the United States, K-REACH for South Korea, KKDIK for Turkey; each has its own threshold and route.
