Under proper storage — sealed packaging, cool and dry conditions — the industry-standard guidance is:

  • SLS powder and needles: about 2 years. High-purity and pharmacopeial grades in sealed drums are sometimes rated up to 5 years by their manufacturers.
  • SLS 30% liquid: about 1 year. Aqueous products are more sensitive to temperature swings and microbial control, so rotate them faster.

Two practical notes:

  1. Shelf life assumes good storage. A bag that has spent a humid summer in an open warehouse can cake within months, whatever the label says.
  2. Expired does not automatically mean unusable. For material past its stated date, retest the key COA lines — active matter, moisture, color and pH — and release it if it still meets your specification.
