Short answer: For 100 kg of 30% solution, use about 32.6 kg of SLS 92% and 67.4 kg of water. The calculation is 30 kg of active matter ÷ 0.92.
The formula
Mass of grade needed = (target % × batch size) ÷ (active content % ÷ 100)
| Target | SLS 92% needed per 100 kg | Water |
|---|---|---|
| 10% solution | 10 ÷ 0.92 = 10.9 kg | 89.1 kg |
| 30% solution | 30 ÷ 0.92 = 32.6 kg | 67.4 kg |
| 30% solution from SLS 95% | 30 ÷ 0.95 = 31.6 kg | 68.4 kg |
Practical dissolution notes
- Add powder to water, never water onto a heap of powder.
- Use warm water (roughly 40-50 °C) and steady agitation; cold water dissolves far more slowly.
- Add gradually and keep the mixture moving through the sticky middle-concentration range where SLS gels.
- Check for clouding if the solution will be stored cold — SLS solutions can cloud at low temperature.
